WhatsApp Replaces PIN with Strong Password and Simplifies Passkey Usage
WhatsApp has announced significant security enhancements designed to fortify user accounts against breaches by replacing traditional verification methods with more robust protection protocols.
Enhanced Verification and Caller Details
The platform will transition from the standard six-digit PIN to a comprehensive password system supporting letters, numbers, and special characters, making unauthorized guessing significantly harder.
Additionally, the app will display extra data for incoming calls from unlisted numbers, such as the caller's country or shared groups, helping users identify suspicious activity, currently available exclusively on Android devices.
Expanding Passkey Adoption
WhatsApp strongly encourages users to adopt Passkeys, allowing login via fingerprint or facial recognition, a feature already utilized by over a billion users globally.
The update now permits adding multiple passkeys to a single account, facilitating seamless synchronization across different operating systems through personal account settings.
These improvements address the rising tide of social engineering and digital fraud, as major platforms strive to simplify security measures without complicating the daily user experience.
Users can activate these features immediately by navigating to settings, selecting account, and then choosing passkeys to ensure the highest level of protection.
