Trump wrote: "FIFA would be making a serious error if it even considers – for any reason – to replace President Infantino." He added that Infantino is "a great personality" who recently oversaw the most successful World Cup edition, delivering four times the revenue of any previous tournament.

The remarks come as FIFA faces pressure from UEFA and the Asian and CONCACAF federations, which rejected a proposal to partially privatise the World Cup by selling stakes to external investors. The three bodies issued a joint statement demanding accountability from FIFA, calling the plan "a breach of trust."
