The Russian embassy in the United Kingdom condemned a call by the Financial Times to supply Kyiv with additional weapons and to intensify strikes on Russian territory, describing it as an attempt to set fire to the negotiation table.

Details of the call and the embassy’s response

In a statement posted on its official Telegram channel, the embassy criticised what it called the newspaper’s "peace recipe" that calls for "more weapons for Kyiv" and "more strikes on Russian soil". It highlighted a paragraph urging Kyiv to "hit the archer, not just the arrow", interpreting it as a clear invitation to target Russian land.

The diplomatic mission also asked rhetorically who holds the bow if Ukraine is the arrow, pointing to the West’s role in directing Ukrainian military operations.

Conflict backdrop

The remarks come as Moscow repeatedly stresses that arms deliveries to Ukraine hinder any potential settlement and make NATO countries direct participants in the war. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that any weapons shipment would become a legitimate Russian target.

The statement underscores the ongoing friction between Russia and the West over support for Ukraine, and reiterates Moscow’s view that such support is "playing with fire" that could derail peace talks.
