MSI has unveiled an updated version of its Katana 15 HX C14 gaming laptop, featuring a cost-effective DDR4 memory option. This strategic move addresses the rising costs of DDR5 memory, allowing consumers to access high performance at a more affordable price point.

Advanced Specifications and Flexible Display Options

The device is powered by Intel Core processors up to the 14th Gen i9-14900HX, paired with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards featuring 8GB of VRAM. It also includes two slots for PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 storage drives, ensuring rapid data transfer speeds for modern applications and games.

Users can choose between two 15.6-inch IPS display options. The first offers a QHD resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, while the second focuses on FHD resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate, catering to diverse gaming preferences.

Dual Memory Support and Technical Context

The motherboard supports both DDR4 and DDR5 standards, enabling MSI to offer an economical alternative without significant structural redesigns. Documents suggest a theoretical maximum capacity of 96GB for both types, although individual DDR4 modules of this size are unusual and may require clarification.

This initiative aims to mitigate final product costs amid current component price hikes, while maintaining the high performance expected from this popular gaming laptop series.
