The Libyan Parliament’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee strongly condemned the recent strike on the Zawiya refinery, labeling it a direct threat to national security and stability.

Immediate Actions

The committee urged security agencies to swiftly implement protective measures for oil facilities and prevent recurrence of such attacks, stressing the need for deterrent penalties against perpetrators.

It also pledged full support to the National Oil Corporation in containing the incident, assessing damages, and restoring refinery operations as quickly as possible.

Incident Background

The episode occurred on Saturday when a drone collided with untreated naphtha tank No. 7‑1 inside the refinery, causing the drone to explode and a fuel leak. Media sources reported finding drone debris at the site and confirmed that the situation inside the refinery remained under control.

This attack follows the National Oil Corporation’s earlier report of a drone intrusion in the area, raising concerns over potential escalation targeting oil infrastructure.

The committee emphasized that oil assets belong to all Libyans and called on all parties to refrain from involving them in any conflict, viewing their protection as a shared national duty.
