Germany Reports Swarms of Drones Detected Over Its Military Bases
A German military operations official, who chose to remain unnamed, reported that the armed forces have detected hundreds of drones flying over military installations in recent years, without providing concrete evidence of their origin.

The official told a media outlet that most sightings involve single drones, but occasionally swarms have been recorded over bases. He added that Germany faces daily hybrid threats, including misinformation, fake news, cyber‑attacks, espionage and even sabotage.
Context
In January 2024, the newspaper Bild reported that Germany is trying to identify the drones appearing over German‑Ukrainian training sites and military barracks. The army believes Moscow may be behind them, despite the lack of solid proof or any intercepted aircraft.
The Russian embassy in Berlin previously denied any involvement, claiming Germany spreads unfounded accusations about alleged disinformation and sabotage campaigns. Meanwhile, the German army’s Inspector General, Carsten Breuer, called for Germany to assume a leading role in strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities.
