Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, 80, issued a royal decree stripping his son’s wife, Raabi’atul Adawiyyah, of all her royal titles, accusing her of "improper conduct" toward members of the royal family. No specifics were disclosed about the alleged behavior.

Decision details

The national broadcaster RTB News reported that the Grand Chamberlain’s Office released the statement on the Sultan’s behalf, emphasizing the directive’s royal nature without further explanation. The titles of the couple’s four children—Princesss Muti’ah (10), Fathiyah (8), Khalisa (6) and Nabeela (16 months)—remain unchanged.

Marriage background

Raabi’atul married Prince Abdul Malik in 2015, with a ten‑day lavish ceremony held at the royal palace. The Sultan, who has been both the monarch and prime minister since Brunei’s 1984 independence, is the world’s longest‑reigning living monarch.

The palace offered no additional information about the alleged misconduct, leaving the future of Raabi’atul’s standing within the royal family uncertain.
