Aoun Announces Negotiation Progress and Rejects Any Israeli Presence in Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the diplomatic talks between Beirut and Tel Aviv are showing notable progress, stressing that any solution ensuring no Israeli forces remain on Lebanese soil is preferable to a devastating war.

In a meeting with the Maronite Institution for Outreach delegation led by Rose Chouairy, Aoun noted a reduction in Israeli attacks after the framework agreement was signed, which helped Lebanese families return to the south during the summer. He outlined national goals: full Israeli withdrawal, release of prisoners, and reconstruction of damaged areas.

Aoun declared, "We will not allow Israel to stay even a single inch of our land, nor a single soldier on our territory," emphasizing that regaining rights requires political solutions, not just military options.

Conflict Context

The talks, mediated by the United States, are expected to resume with a new round of indirect negotiations in early September. This follows ongoing Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, including drone strikes and artillery bombardments in areas such as Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, Marjeyoun, and Sour.

When asked about wars conducted in the name of "southern sons," Aoun called for their termination, affirming that rebuilding the state and strengthening its institutions remain the priority despite opposition from forces seeking to derail this path.

The meeting concluded with Aoun reaffirming that the framework agreement represents "the best possible" and that Lebanon will continue to pursue Israel's full withdrawal from occupied territories and the release of prisoners.
