The temporary pool outside Berlin's Volksbühne theater has reopened to the public after a multi-day closure, following controversy surrounding canceled events for Black community groups and ensuing racist harassment.

Reopening Details and Controversy

Theater officials confirmed that "solidarity swim" sessions began on Saturday at noon, with free online tickets selling out, though walk-ins are accepted based on capacity. Initial closures were due to shower unit failures, followed by the cancellation of a Black-only event, which sparked racist backlash and threats.

Project Background and Goals

Known as "Volkspool," this free facility operates until October. Artistic director Matthias Lilienthal views the initiative as a political protest against the deterioration of the city's urban infrastructure.
