Uber has launched fully autonomous driving services in Dubai by integrating Baidu's 'Apollo Go' vehicles into its platform, marking a significant milestone for smart mobility in the emirate. New Horizon will operate the fleet, allowing passengers to ride without drivers starting August 20, 2026, via UberX and Comfort categories. Users can specifically request autonomous vehicles through the app, with initial coverage in Al Sufouh and Jumeirah, planned for expansion. The service utilizes sixth-generation RT6 electric cars designed for driverless operation, accommodating three passengers. These vehicles feature over thirty advanced sensors for real-time environmental monitoring and data processing, ensuring a smooth and safe ride according to high technical standards. This launch in Dubai represents the first step in a long-term strategic partnership between Uber and Baidu, aiming to deploy thousands of autonomous vehicles globally. Currently, Apollo Go operations cover twenty-eight cities worldwide, with its fleet logging over 240 million kilometers in full autonomous mode. Uber emphasized that all connected vehicles, including Baidu's, adhere to strict safety guidelines before operating on its network. This collaboration aims to enhance transport efficiency and reduce reliance on human drivers while ensuring the highest safety standards for passengers in a sophisticated urban environment.
