The Chinese robot "Tiangong Ultra" has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the human world record in the 100-meter sprint, clocking 9.39 seconds during the second Global Humanoid Robot Games. This new record surpasses the previous mark set by a Jamaican athlete in 2009, signaling a significant leap in robotic locomotion technology.

Chinese Dominance and Practical Challenges

Tiangong Ultra outpaced its competitor "Lightning" from Honor, which finished in 9.47 seconds. Notably, the winning robot recorded 21.5 seconds in the inaugural event last year, highlighting rapid progress. Despite these impressive times, technical hurdles remain evident; several robots collided with safety cushions or required human assistance to leave the track after crossing the finish line.

The competition also featured a half-marathon event. Here, Honor's Lightning robot secured the gold medal with a time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds, beating previous human records in this longer distance, even amidst frequent falls and stumbles observed during the race.
