Suicide deaths in Lebanon have risen by 32% in 3 months, with 50 deaths recorded during the same period in 2026. The national hotline for psychological support and suicide prevention receives over 60 calls daily.

Suicide Deaths

Suicide deaths in Lebanon decreased from 171 in 2019 to 115 in 2021, before rising to 168 in 2023. Then, they decreased to 129 in 2024 and rose again to 147 in 2025, an increase of 14% in one year.

Official figures show that younger age groups account for a large proportion of deaths. Out of 168 people who lost their lives to suicide, 121 were between the ages of 13 and 42.

Context

The people of Lebanon have been experiencing consecutive health, economic, and social crises since 2019, without having a real opportunity to recover between crises. This accumulation has weakened their ability to cope with pressures, increased feelings of fear, instability, despair, and helplessness.

Abir Jamoul, a therapist, notes that attention increases when severe pressure is combined with isolation, loss of hope, or a previous suicide attempt.
