Samsung Display announced the development of a new OLED panel capable of reaching a peak brightness of 10,000 nits, the highest level currently available for smartphones. The breakthrough is achieved with the new M16 material, which enhances illumination while maintaining power efficiency.

Technical details and rollout

Although Samsung manufactures the panel, its first deployment appears in Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo devices, marking the initial use of the technology in iOS. In the Android ecosystem, the M16 OLED screens will debut in the iQOO 16, unveiled today, and are slated to appear in the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra next year.

Market context and alternatives

Earlier rumors suggested Google might adopt M16 panels for the Pixel 11 lineup, but the latest announcement clarified that Google will continue using previous-generation OLED panels, leaving M16 exclusive to the devices mentioned above.

This development represents a significant step toward better visibility in bright environments and paves the way for smartphones with sharper, more vivid displays.
