Doha has signaled its firm opposition to military escalation in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing the paramount importance of diplomatic solutions to manage rising tensions between regional and global powers in this sensitive area.

Support for Peace Initiatives

Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that his country supports the mediation efforts led by Oman in coordination with Iran to reach agreements regulating navigation in the vital Strait of Hormuz. The diplomat stressed that establishing a ceasefire guarantees freedom of maritime passage, thereby reopening channels for dialogue between conflicting parties.

He clarified that Qatar is currently focused on containing ongoing crises and steering them back toward peaceful negotiations, rejecting any escalation scenarios. He noted that previous violations of ceasefires necessitate greater caution and joint action to prevent further deterioration of the security situation in territorial waters.

Background of Regional Tension

This statement follows controversial remarks by US President Donald Trump, who threatened to militarily target Oman if it obstructed US efforts in the strategic strait. Trump asserted during a Fox News interview that any opposition from Muscat would be met with severe retaliation, significantly heightening diplomatic and security tensions in the region.

Despite these severe threats, Doha continues to push for negotiation as the sole path to regional stability. The Qatari Foreign Ministry maintains that dialogue remains the most effective way to avoid potential regional catastrophes.
