Japanese Police Warn Father After Leaving 7-Year-Old Son Alone on Mount Fuji
Japanese police have sharply criticized a father who left his seven-year-old son alone in a remote area of Mount Fuji, while he and the rest of his family continued their hike to the summit, showing a dangerous disregard for the child's safety.
Child Found Alone at High Altitude
The boy was discovered sitting by himself near a hut at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters above sea level, a location past the halfway point to Japan's highest peak, hours after the family hike began.
Feeling exhausted and hesitant to continue, the child was ordered by his father to wait at the Sixth Station on the Fujinomiya trail, after which the father and an older sibling proceeded with the ascent, leaving him behind.
Police Intervention and Father's Response
Police returned to find the child unharmed after five hours and handed him back to his father, who was detained; authorities warned the man of potential criminal charges for such severe negligence.
