Packing for a vacation transforms from a tedious chore into a precise art form requiring intelligence and coordination, according to Saudi stylist Nouf Al-Namla. She emphasizes that elegance lies not in the quantity of clothes, but in the quality of coordination and interchangeability of pieces, ensuring multiple outfits from a light, carefully curated bag.

Fabric and Piece Selection Based on Weather

Al-Namla begins her packing journey by choosing fabrics suitable for the climate, preferring cotton, linen, and lace for warm destinations, while avoiding silk despite its elegance due to its unsuitability for extreme heat. In colder seasons, the long coat becomes the central piece around which outfits are built, supported by layering techniques to ensure warmth without sacrificing style, with hats and scarves added as both aesthetic and practical elements.

In spring and autumn, colors play a crucial role, as Al-Namla leans towards shades of yellow-green and burgundy, considering the higher probability of rainfall, which necessitates choosing long shoes resistant to weather elements. She stresses the importance of considering the destination, noting that these steps are primarily designed for travel to Europe, where requirements differ radically from those in other countries around the world.

Transitioning from Day to Night

The little black dress tops her list as a cross-seasonal piece, which can be coordinated with a side jacket or a versatile shirt. She explains that the magic lies in accessories; replacing comfortable ballet flats with high heels and switching a large bag for a small clutch transforms the look completely from daytime to elegant evening. However, she emphasizes that comfort is the supreme criterion, rejecting pieces that cause pain or discomfort, as they are often neglected in the bag and left unused throughout the trip.

Overpacking is considered the most common mistake, and she prefers to leave empty space in the bag for shopping new pieces during travel. She selects a specific set including a leather jacket, jeans, tunics with distinctive details, and two main bags that can be easily coordinated. In this way, a few pieces transform into limitless options, ensuring a light and practical travel experience that reflects refined taste and a deep understanding of modern travel needs.
