Nick Kyrgios Suspended After Testing Positive for Cocaine

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios faces a temporary suspension after testing positive for cocaine, as confirmed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
Testing Details and Measures
The sample was collected from the 31-year-old during his participation in the Mallorca tournament on June 22. Accredited laboratories accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency confirmed the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.
Since cocaine is classified as a prohibited substance during competition, the suspension is mandatory and took effect on August 4. Kyrgios has the right to appeal the decision but has not filed any formal appeal yet.
Player's Apology and Context
Kyrgios personally acknowledged the incident, calling it a serious error for which he takes full responsibility. He offered heartfelt apologies to his fans, family, and sponsors, specifically thanking children who follow his career.
The Australian star revealed that frequent injuries and intense psychological pressure have accompanied him in recent years, noting that the possibility of nearing the end of his career was harder than expected. He described the incident as a "wake-up call" and announced a 28-day break from social media and public life to focus on his mental health.
This legal matter arises during a difficult sporting period, as Kyrgios has played only four matches in 2026, winning just one, with his last appearance against compatriot Adam Walton.
His future remains uncertain as no final penalty has been issued yet, leaving him the option to appeal the suspension through available legal channels.
