Moscow Marks 102nd Anniversary of Bus Fleet with Grand Historical Exhibition

Moscow launched a massive celebration marking 102 years since the city’s first bus fleet began operation, drawing over 18,000 visitors from various backgrounds.

Exhibition showcases rare and modern buses

The show featured historic buses spanning different eras of Moscow’s transport history alongside contemporary models currently serving the city’s road network. Visitors could trace the evolution from early designs to today’s comfort standards, highlighting technological gaps between periods.

The electric bus No. 3000 received special attention as the first electric vehicle to enter service in the capital, marking a pivotal step toward emission reduction and greener public transport.

Historical context and sustainable development

Since the launch of regular routes in the early 20th century, Moscow’s bus system has undergone a radical shift toward modern electric vehicles, enhancing speed, comfort and environmental efficiency. This mirrors the city’s broader transition from an industrial hub to a sustainable urban center.

Beyond the exhibition, organizers allowed visitors to mail postcards designed inside bus 3000 via Russian Post, while the North River Station turned into a venue blending transport, leisure and culture, in line with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin’s directives.

Deputy Mayor for Industry and Transport Maxim Leksoff confirmed the ongoing development of the North River Station as a cultural‑transport hub, emphasizing that the 102nd anniversary is not merely a historical reminder but an opportunity to strengthen ties among generations of passengers and engineers who have built a modern public‑transport system.
