Mbappe Stresses His Worthiness for the 2026 Ballon d’Or After Historic Record

Kylian Mbappe, forward for Real Madrid and the French national team, stated that he believes he deserves the 2026 Ballon d’Or based on his individual achievements this season.
Statement Details
Speaking to TNT Sports, Mbappe said he has “done different things this year” compared to other nominees and that his goal is to win the award, which he views as reserved for exceptional players. He added that “there is no player better than me” and highlighted his historic World Cup tally of 22 goals, surpassing Lionel Messi’s record.
The 27‑year‑old explained that reaching this milestone is a unique accomplishment, noting that “winning the Ballon d’Or does not require 100% consensus; there will always be skeptics.” He emphasized that the prize goes to those who add extraordinary value to the sport.
Competition Context
Mbappe joins a shortlist of 31 candidates for the award, including Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Osman Dembele. Although he has not yet won a major club or international trophy, his individual performances in club and international competitions have made him a strong contender.
Mbappe also recorded 42 goals and provided seven assists last season for Real Madrid, bolstering his chances for the individual honor.
