U.S. envoy Jared Kushner held a four‑hour telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging the Israeli leader not to obstruct the Gaza cease‑fire plan backed by President Donald Trump.

Meeting details

An Israeli source reported that Netanyahu expressed concern that any progress on the 15‑point plan could become a problem ahead of the national elections scheduled for late October. Although he had previously rejected the proposal, Netanyahu remains wary of making concessions before the vote.

During the call, Netanyahu demanded that Hamas disarm completely before Israel begins withdrawing its forces from Gaza. Hamas, however, insists that disarmament must be linked to a phased Israeli pull‑out.

Political backdrop

The dialogue occurs as Netanyahu’s popularity wanes among right‑wing voters and the upcoming elections loom, prompting a tougher stance on Hamas to avoid domestic criticism.

Kushner and Peace Council head Nikolai Maladynov also met Hamas representatives in Egypt on Sunday, seeking common ground to end the hostilities.
