Exceptional storms have swept through Japan's Chiba Prefecture, resulting in three fatalities and causing widespread disruption to electricity and public transportation in the densely populated area east of Tokyo.

Heightened Warnings and Evacuations

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued its highest alert, Level 5, for 14 municipalities in the prefecture on Thursday evening, warning of imminent flood and landslide risks. The alert level was later lowered after the peak of the storm.

Authorities ordered the evacuation of over 220,000 residents to safe shelters, according to the NHK Broadcasting Corporation, while TEPCO reported power outages affecting 20,000 homes in the affected zones.
