Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades Warn Government of Waning Patience Over Disarmament

Iraqi Hezbollah brigades issued a firm statement setting strict conditions for talks with Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaydi over the disarmament process, noting the looming deadline of September 30.
Conditions and Criticisms
The group’s official communiqué demanded that any approach respect the dignity of the people and comply with the law on weapons‑free Iraq. It sharply rebuked al‑Zaydi for what it called “empty threats” and “provocative actions,” accusing the United States of backing house raids and intimidation of martyrs’ families.
It added that the brigades’ patience, which has lasted over a hundred days, is running out, stressing that the government cannot ignore the complex internal, regional and international realities.
Political and Security Context
The “weapons‑in‑state” file is a cornerstone of Iraq’s security agenda. The government set September 30 as the final date to complete the process, while armed factions remain divided on full surrender.
Government spokesperson Haider al‑Aboudi, cited by the Iraqi News Agency, said the international coalition is accelerating its withdrawal procedures to finish by the end of September, in tandem with the weapons‑in‑state plan.
Background
The warning comes after Prime Minister al‑Zaydi met U.S. Central Command leader Brad Cooper, insisting that October 1 will mark a new era free of foreign troops and that disarmament will reinforce state sovereignty and pave the way for development.
Separately, the “Nujaba” movement, through spokesman Hussein Ali al‑Mousawi, reiterated its refusal to hand over arms, highlighting the persistent split between the government and militias.
Negotiations remain tense as domestic and international pressure mounts to secure Iraq’s stability and protect its sovereignty.
