A teardown of the iPhone 18 Pro reveals internal upgrades that boost charging speed and improve heat dissipation, while the exterior remains largely unchanged.

Key internal changes

REWA Technology’s YouTube video shows a version with a physical SIM slot and a 4 056 mAh battery, a 1.7 % increase over the iPhone 17 Pro. A larger battery connector supports faster charging, and the A20 Pro processor has been moved to the top of the device with a new thermal pad.

The vapor‑chamber cooling area has been enlarged to contact the processor directly, enhancing heat spread. Cable routing has been revised, the main camera is larger, and the Face ID sensor is now positioned at the left corner beneath the display, allowing a smaller Dynamic Island.

Technical context

This marks Apple’s first use of under‑display cameras, achieved by lowering pixel density in the area above the sensor to let infrared light pass. The approach may make third‑party screen replacements more challenging.

Repairability has decreased: NAND chips and power‑management circuits are now sandwiched between motherboard layers, earning the motherboard a five‑star difficulty rating, while other components score lower.

Apple claims the A20 Pro’s efficiency keeps battery life on par with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, though early tests show only a marginal difference.
