The advanced industrial zone 'Oxagon' in Saudi Arabia's Neom city witnessed today the laying of the cornerstone for a massive data center dedicated to running advanced artificial intelligence models. This historic announcement comes from 'Humaan', a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, and 'DataVolt', a specialist in digital infrastructure, during their participation in the LEAP 2026 conference.

Project Details and Implementation Phases

This step represents the actual transition of the project from the study and planning phase to the field implementation phase, as construction work has already begun to execute the first stage with a capacity of 100 megawatts. This operational capacity is scheduled to go live by 2028, serving as the starter for a huge complex with a total planned capacity of 1.5 gigawatts, focusing on the first stage of 360 megawatts as an intermediate timeline.

The new facility is designed to meet the growing demand for high-density computing, relying entirely on innovative cooling technologies and renewable energy sources to ensure operational efficiency. The project combines the technical expertise of 'Humaan' in AI layers with the engineering efficiency of 'DataVolt' in developing and operating large-scale digital infrastructure, creating a high-performance computing environment.

Strategic Advantages of Oxagon

The facility benefits from the strategic location of Oxagon on the Red Sea coast, which provides low-latency network connectivity via submarine cables leading to Europe and Africa. Project officials confirm that the availability of industrial land, clean energy, and fast network connectivity has become critical factors in modern computing economics, making Neom an attractive destination for global digital infrastructure projects.

Estimates indicate that this investment will enhance the Kingdom's position as a regional technology hub by providing sustainable digital infrastructure capable of handling complex AI and cloud computing workloads, supporting comprehensive digital transformation and diversifying national income sources.
