Huawei disclosed in its latest "Intelligent World 2035" report that AI agents are projected to account for more than 90% of internet data traffic by 2035, prompting a need to double computing power and build new infrastructures.

Key forecasts

The study estimates roughly 900 billion active AI agents worldwide by that year, about a hundred times the expected global population. It also foresees an unprecedented rise in the consumption of "AI tokens," data units that flow through and are generated by smart models.

The report stresses the urgency of bolstering security and privacy solutions to keep pace with this surge, as well as supporting a range of technologies related to intelligent agents.

Strategic context

Huawei aims to emulate Nvidia’s market presence in China by reshaping its computing framework. In April it launched a self‑learning security platform that uses AI to detect cyber threats, alongside proposals for AI‑tailored firewalls for enterprises.

Unlike some U.S. firms that are tempering AI development with stricter controls, Huawei is accelerating investment to fast‑track AI adoption in the domestic market and strengthen product security.

These initiatives are seen as a major step toward achieving artificial general intelligence capable of tasks beyond human abilities.
