Google Launches Motion Assist Feature to Reduce Motion Sickness on Pixel and Samsung Phones

Google has made its Motion Assist feature generally available on Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 17, aiming to lessen motion sickness during car and bus rides.
How the feature works
Motion Assist displays two columns of moving bubbles on the sides of the screen that react to device motion, providing visual cues that help the brain align visual input with bodily movement. Users can customize bubble color, shape, transparency, and enable random changes that switch the design every few seconds.
Activation and usage
The feature can be turned on by searching for “Motion Assist” in the phone settings or adding it to the quick‑settings panel. It also auto‑activates when the system detects the user inside a moving vehicle, and a silent notification allows quick deactivation.
Technical background
The concept uses visual anchors to reduce the mismatch between visual perception and vestibular sensation, mitigating the common “motion sickness” effect. The initial rollout began earlier this month and is now bundled with Google Play Services version 26.33.32.
Google advises a device reboot if the bubbles do not appear and confirms support for Pixel phones as well as Samsung Galaxy models, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 series.
