Microsoft has acknowledged a technical glitch affecting Excel users, specifically disrupting the copy-and-paste functionality. This issue arises silently, with no error messages appearing when users attempt to transfer data, leaving them confused about the cause of the failure.

Glitch Details and Workarounds

The problem stems from the KB5002914 security update released on September 8, impacting Excel 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024 versions. Users report silent paste failures, broken fill handles, VBA macro issues, and occasional application crashes. Microsoft has not yet provided a specific date for a permanent fix.

As a temporary solution, users can utilize the "Paste Special" option and select "Values". For a more drastic approach, MSI version users can uninstall the update, while Click-to-Run users must revert to an older Office package version.

Security Warning

Experts advise against removing the security update unless absolutely necessary, as it patches 29 critical vulnerabilities in Excel, including remote code execution flaws. Reverting to an older version would reopen these security holes, exposing users to potential cyberattacks.
