Egypt has achieved a significant milestone in its energy sector, climbing to the 13th position globally and securing the top spot in the Arab world for resource exploration indices. This ascent is driven by a sharp 20% increase in drilling and production activities recorded throughout the current year, signaling a robust recovery and expansion in the industry.

Accelerated Production and Investment Expansion

Kareem Badawi, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, revealed during a comprehensive meeting with sector leaders that the state's strategy to support foreign investment through settling partner dues and refining petroleum contracts has yielded tangible results. A key achievement is the imminent operational launch of the Milha gas field in the Western Desert, with a capacity of 100 million cubic feet daily, thereby strengthening local energy security. Meanwhile, the South Valley Holding Company for Oil announced plans to inject $250 million into expansion projects in the southern Western Desert over the next five years, following record-breaking production levels.

Additionally, Badawi highlighted that refining efficiency has surpassed 80% in 2026, a move that has substantially reduced the foreign currency expenditure on diesel imports and opened new export markets for high-value petroleum products. The minister emphasized that converting strategic targets into measurable operational plans is crucial for meeting domestic market needs and supporting the national trade balance.

Digital Transformation and Environmental Sustainability

The sector's evolution extends beyond production metrics to encompass technological advancement and environmental responsibility. The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation introduced an electronic portal for managing surplus assets and a digital platform to monitor the environmental performance of facilities. This approach reflects Egypt's commitment to balancing economic growth with resource preservation, ensuring that all initiatives are grounded in sustainability and efficiency to serve the country's long-term economic vision.
