The discovery includes five different shark species, four of which have been recorded for the first time in the Egyptian fossil record. The coexistence of these species indicates ideal environmental conditions, including sufficient sunlight, moderate temperatures, and healthy levels of dissolved oxygen.

This research project dates back to 2024, with initial results published regarding two shark species, raising the total number of species discovered at the site to seven. Scientists emphasize that the transition from ocean to desert was not a sudden event, but the result of slow climatic and geological changes spanning millions of years.
