Apple announced that it will extend the free satellite service period for iPhone models dating back to the iPhone 14 series for at least an additional year. The move aims to improve emergency and connectivity experiences in areas lacking cellular coverage.

Extension details

The free features include satellite‑based SOS emergency calls, text messaging, Find My location tracking, and roadside assistance. Users must activate eligible devices before September 9 2026 to qualify for the extended free period.

Development context

This marks the third time Apple has extended free satellite support for the iPhone 14 line, following a similar extension for the iPhone 15 series last year and the first such extension for the iPhone 17 series. Apple describes these periods as a “free trial,” but has not yet disclosed subscription fees or pricing after the trial ends.

Owners of iPhone 14 and newer models will enjoy these services at no cost until the specified deadline, strengthening Apple’s ability to provide reliable connectivity in emergency situations.
