Meteorite NWA 13441 Solves a Geological Puzzle

The meteorite known as NWA 13441, discovered in Algerian territory in 2019, stands as a unique exception in cosmic studies, as rigorous tests have confirmed its age to be approximately 1.27 billion years, distinguishing it significantly from known counterparts.

Most Martian meteorites classified within the "Shergottites" category do not exceed 600 million years in age, while the next closest meteorites in terms of antiquity are around 2.4 billion years old, creating a massive temporal gap that lacked a clear explanation until now.

Scientific Context for the Temporal Dispute

According to Professor Ethan Baxter from Boston College, this rock fills a significant scientific void, as he stated: "There is no other Martian meteorite that is 1.27 billion years old," making this discovery a cornerstone in understanding the geological evolution of the Red Planet during that missing epoch.
